C'est avec ces mots que le monde entier a qualifié mardi 11 septembre l'apocalypse qui s'est produite aux Etats-Unis. Les deux tours jumelles du World Trade Center de New York se sont effondrées après avoir été percutées par deux avions kamikazes. A Washington, une explosion a éventré le Pentagone.
Le mardi 11 septembre restera comme une journée noire dans l'histoire des Etats-Unis. New York et Washington ont été les premières cibles de ces attentats terroristes avant qu'un avion s'écrase ensuite dans l'ouest de la Pennsylvanie. A New York, c'était vers 9 heures du matin, heure locale qu'un premier avion a percuté l'une des tours géantes du World Trade Center, construit en 1972, et un peu plus tard, un autre appareil s'est écrasé près du sommet de la deuxième tour, suivies de l'explosion et l'écroulement des deux buildings.
Le premier avion serait un Boeing 737 de la compagnie United Airlines et le second un Boeing 767 d'American Airlines, qui auraient été détournés après leur décollage.
Une heure après le premier attentat de New-York, c'est Washington qui est visé avec le crash d'un 3ème appareil détourné sur le Pentagone et l'explosion quelques miniutes plus tard d'une voiture piégée devant le département d'Etat. Et enfin à 11h 10, heure locale, un Boeing 757 d'United Airlines s'écrase à Pittsburg, dans l'Etat de Pennsylvanie. (d'après KBS/RKI)
